NBHS Girls Volleyball vs. Lewis Mills Live Stream (October 29)

CSDNB Athletics

While we are in the COVID-19 pandemic, there will be many changes for our seasons this school year. Below is the most up-to-date information regarding spectators at events for our fall sports. This includes volleyball, soccer, and cross country.

Spectators Only: Two family passes will be assigned per athlete for home contests only by the Athletic Director. Households that have smaller children and other unique circumstances must seek prior approval from the administration for an exemption of this rule. Spectators from the opposing team will not be permitted to attend any away contests at this time.

Maintain Social Distancing: Spectators are expected to maintain a distance of six feet from non-family members and follow the instructions from the event staff.

Masks and Face Coverings: All spectators must wear a mask in accordance of the Executive Order No. 7NNN, which states that masks or cloth face coverings that cover a person’s nose and mouth are required to be worn when in public and a six-foot distance is unavoidable, whether indoors or outdoors. Any home spectator will not be permitted entry to any event if they do not have a mask on. This rule is in effect for both indoor and outdoor events.

Self-Assessment: All spectators should perform a self-assessment prior to attending any athletic event to identify fever and other possible COVID-19 symptoms outlined by the CDC. Any spectator who feels they have these symptoms or do not feel well should stay home.

Other considerations during the COVID-19 pandemic

• Locker rooms will not be available for away teams.
• Designated bathrooms, entries, exits, and procedures will be communicated to teams before/upon their arrival to a venue.
• Athletic Directors and event staff will make every conscious effort to keep fans away from all student-athletes at all times.
• Staging area for differing CB levels. No more than one team from the same school in the gym at the same time unless appropriately distanced.

Where to Register with FamilyID

Registration for student-athletes on FamilyID is now open for all winter sports. This includes boys and girls basketball, co-ed indoor track, co-ed wrestling, and cheerleading. Tryouts will begin on November 21 and all student-athletes must be registered to participate. Click this link to start the registration process.

FamilyID, a convenient online process, is a secure platform that provides you with an easy, user-friendly way to register for our programs, and helps us to be more administratively efficient and environmentally responsible. When you register through FamilyID, the system keeps track of your information in your FamilyID profile. You enter your information only once for each family member for multiple uses and multiple programs.

All student-athletes who are interested in participating in winter sports must register online (no more handing out and collecting emergency information sheets). If the registration process is not completed, your child will not be able to practice or participate in any form of athletic activity.

Before You Register - Physical Exams

All student-athletes must check in with the school nurse regarding physicals. A physical exam must be current within the past 13 months and signed by a physician and must be in effect for the entire length of the sports season. If the student’s physical is to expire during the season, they will not be able to play until a new physical exam is received. You can obtain a physical form on the website using the link below.

Information Needed to Register

It will be helpful to have the following information handy to allow for accurate completion of your online registration: Doctor’s information, health insurance information, emergency contact names and phone numbers.

In the summer of 2017, we began began the process of rebranding the athletic program throughout the district. The goal was to stay modern, consistent and connected while appealing to both current stakeholders and the next generation of Hurricanes alike.

While New Britain is rich with tradition and history, the athletic program has seen many variations of logos, concepts and colors throughout its years. The goal was to bring a uniformed approach and design to all of our athletic programs.

In keeping tradition, the concept of the colors maroon and gold are unchanged. However, we have adopted a standardized maroon and gold to create uniformity. From there, we worked to standardize the hurricane logo. We also created specific wordmarks for each individual sport, similar to what you see above.

Finally, we took a look at the historic interlocking NB. The interlocking NB was born when the New Britain Red Sox came to New Britain in 1983 and was used only by the NBHS football team starting in the early 1990s. It wasn’t until 2012 when the interlocking NB made its way to other high school athletics programs. Now, this interlocking logo has been replaced with a new NB logo that is not only modern and unique, but also consistent with the new Hurricanes wordmark.

This final design was the product of several phases of testing and rollout. In our final phase, we held a focus group comprised of coaches, staff and community members. Together, we decided on the final NB design, which is pictured here.

The revitalized brand identity is built to further inspire and evoke greater emotion. It is built to capture the essence of Hurricane Pride, the power of passion, perseverance and grit, within our young New Britain athletes. When executed properly, the brand elements will come together to not only reinforce the district’s mission to educate and inspire through athletics, but will also reinforce both city and school pride.

The motion is swift and at the top of the NB, we see a movement that starts and speeds up towards the left. The swoosh at the bottom represents an upward and onward motion, with an eye looking ahead to the future as the design transforms into a larger shape.

This re-brand allows for the Hurricanes brand to fit current trends in design while appealing to the demographic it is meant to inspire. With this overhaul, uniform elements ensure that moving forward, our identity become consistent across all platforms. It's a new era for the New Britain Hurricanes!
