Green Shoots

Across CSDNB, early signs of progress, what we call Green Shoots, are emerging from the strategic investments made in recent years. From rising test scores and improved reading levels to expanded college credit opportunities and reduced absenteeism, the data shows our efforts are starting to make an impact. These encouraging trends are evidence that our planning, funding, and shared commitment are taking root. While there’s more work ahead, these early gains point to lasting growth, equity, and excellence.

Islands of Excellence

DiLoreto Elementary & Middle School is experiencing incredible growth, with two standout classrooms achieving remarkable gains in i-Ready assessments—175% median growth in math and 156% in reading—through high expectations, strategic affirmations, and an unwavering commitment to student success. The school’s leadership team is reviewing these "islands of excellence" to identify best practices that can be scaled school-wide and eventually district-wide, ensuring every student benefits from these proven strategies for success.

Showcasing NBHS

New Britain High School’s 8th Grade Showcase welcomed over 100 families, providing an opportunity to highlight the school’s Distinguished Academies, award-winning Fine Arts program, athletics, and student-led clubs. Beyond showcasing programs, the event helped strengthen community connections and demonstrate why NBHS is the best choice for students’ future.

Leading the Way

CSDNB recently hosted nearly 40 national representatives to showcase its Teacher Residency Program (TRP), now registered as a Department of Labor Apprenticeship. Through TRP, residents gain hands-on experience with mentor teachers while completing academic coursework, supporting the district’s commitment to diversifying the educator workforce.

New Britain High School now ranks sixth in Connecticut for students earning UConn credit in high school, with participation rising from 184 to 276 students. This program gives students a head start on college, helping them complete freshman courses early while saving thousands in tuition.
