Your Voice Matters!

For the 2026-27 school year, CSDNB and districts like ours are facing a critical budget shortfall.  Without substantial additional funding from the State and City, the Board of Education will be forced to make significant reductions in services and staffing.  You can help!  It’s important that our elected officials know about your support for our schools.

We encourage you to send a polite, respectful, and informed message to our elected officials.  Let them know that you are an active community member and that you support funding our schools.

Submit Testimony to the CT Education Committee

This is an online form on the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA) website that lets anyone submit testimony to the Education Committee. Testimony is written comments or statements about a bill or issue that will be discussed by the committee. When the legislature is considering laws, committees hold public hearings so people can share their opinions, and this online submission tool makes it easy to send in your written comments instead of or in addition to speaking at a hearing. Every written testimony submitted through this form becomes public record on the CGA website, where lawmakers and the public can view it. The next Education Committee meeting is scheduled for Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Sample advocacy letters are available below.

Progress, Priorities, and Investment

CSDNB is at a financial crossroads. While we are grateful for the City’s support in recent years, our per-student funding remains among the lowest in the state compared to peer districts, a reality that has required long-standing reductions in services and programs. Even so, key indicators such as student learning, attendance, and college credit attainment are trending positively. This proposed budget reflects the challenge of flat state Alliance District funding following years of increases that helped offset rising costs. With no excess remaining to cut, this request represents the minimum funding necessary to maintain current staffing, resources, and programs; any reduction would result in unavoidable impacts to services for students.
