The Consolidated School District of New Britain welcomes families and children who reside in New Britain. It is the mission of the Board and district staff to provide all children who reside in New Britain with an excellent education. Central Registration is open from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday to support families registering for PRESCHOOL - 8th GRADE New Britain High School Registration is open from 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday to support families registering for High School, grades 9-12. A Spanish translator is available during office hours at both locations. Translators for Polish or Arabic are available by arrangement with the Registrars.

Early Enrollment to Kindergarten
Did you know the Connecticut General Assembly recently passed legislation that raises the minimum age for automatic entry into Kindergarten. Specifically, the legislation now states that children need to turn five on or before September 1 of the school year in order to be automatically eligible to enroll in kindergarten. For incoming Kindergarteners, this means their 5th birthday will occur on or before September 1, 2024. However, parents and guardians may request early enrollment for children who will turn five after September 1, 2024.

CSDNB will comply with the new legislation. We are currently seeking information from the parents and guardians of current preschoolers and ask parents and guardians to use our School Entry Interested Form: 2024-2025 to indicate your intentions for your child by June 30, 2024. Please note, this is NOT a registration form. THIS IS FOR INFORMATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY TO HELP US BEST PLAN!

It’s that time of year again! Registration and enrollment for the 2023-2024 school year is OPEN! We are so excited for your child to continue their Preschool journey with us in New Britain! We hope to make this a smooth transition for you and your child as they continue their first school experience with us.

PLEASE REMEMBER:
  • * Preschool Slots are available on a First-Come, First-Serve basis. This includes enrollment in school day slots for 4-year-olds! PLACEMENTS ARE AWARDED UPON COMPLETION OF REGISTRATION WHICH INCLUDES SUBMISSION OF REQUIRED DOCUMENTS, SIGNED CONTRACT, AND DEPOSIT SUBMITTED.
  • * Online registration is open. Registering now will ensure that your child is enrolled and placed by the start of the new school year.
  • * Prior Preschool participation in the District does not guarantee your child’s slot for the following school year. Re-Registration is required to secure that slot. All children must register and sign contracts. This includes children receiving special education services in district classes.

HOW TO REGISTER TO RETURN TO PRESCHOOL:
The registration for Returning Preschool Students form is available via PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please contact your child’s school if you don’t remember your credentials for accessing PowerSchool Parent Portal. Once you access your Parent Portal, please click on the Forms and select the 2023-2024 Returning Preschools Students link. Complete the form and upload the required documents and schedule an appointment with Central Registration in order to complete registration for your child’s 2023-2024 school year. It is imperative that we have updated phone numbers and email addresses so we can contact you if needed.

If your student attends Gaffney Preschool, Gaffney KEY Preschool, or Roosevelt Early Learning Center (RELC) in the 2022-23 School Year, YOU DO NOT NEED TO COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM TO REGISTER FOR KINDERGARTEN IN 2023-24.

Preschool
Registration for preschool occurs through an online registration process. New student registration is only for those who are beginning in CSDNB for 2023-2024.

Preschool Registration
Preschool slots are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. This includes enrollment in full-day slots for 4-year-old children. Placements are awarded upon completion of registration, which includes submission of required documents and deposits. 

Returning Students: Students who are currently registered in Preschool at Gaffney, Gaffney Key or RELC, who wish to continue in Preschool for the 2023-24 need to fil out the “2023-2024 Returning Preschool Students” form available in PowerSchool Parent Portal. Please contact your child’s school if you don’t remember your credentials for accessing the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Once you access your Parent Portal please click on the Forms and select 2023-2024 Returning Preschools Students link. Complete the following steps:
1. Fill out the form and upload the required documents
2. Schedule an appointment with Central Registration in order to complete registration for your child’s 2023-2024 school year.

The preschool options for 2023-2024 are as follows:

• Part-Time: 9:00 - 11:30 AM or 12:30 - 3:00 PM at Roosevelt Early Learning Center or Gaffney Elementary School.
• Full-Day: 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM at Roosevelt Early Learning Center or Gaffney Elementary School

Required Documents
1. Proof of Residency (Current): Mortgage, Lease, gas, light or cable bill (only one). The bill must be in the parent's name. If the student and the parent/guardian are living with someone, the person who owns or rents the home must complete/sign the Certificate of Residency form.
2. Birth Certificate (long)/Passport

4. A copy of the IEP/504 plan if the student is receiving Special Services

Students entering Grade 9-12 will need to submit all information to the Registration Office at NBHS. For more information on how to register your child at New Britain High School, please click here.



All children will be enrolled in neighborhood schools based on the parent’s/guardian’s residential address. Neighborhood schools allow the Consolidated School District of New Britain to better direct and focus staff and resources to fit the needs of the students in every school. Our plan is to develop each school as the focus of its neighborhood, and to make a vibrant community center as well as a place of gathering for students and families.  Click here to find your child's neighborhood school.

Should I create an account?
If you've never completed an online Returning Student Registration, you should create an account. This allows you to securely save your work and come back at a later time if necessary. You can use your email address or cell phone number. If you already have an account, you can sign in and complete the form. (You should use the same account to complete forms for multiple children.)

I've completed the form, now what?
When you have finished entering your information, click Submit. This will send all of the information you've entered to the school. If you cannot click on this button, you will need to make sure that you have answered all required questions.

What if I have more than one student in the Consolidated School District of New Britain? Do I need to do this for each child?
Yes, because you'll need to provide information that is specific for each child. We recommend that you submit one Returning Student Registration and then start another – this will allow you to "snap over" shared family information, which will save you time.
