Camp Read A Lot at Vance

On Thursday, March 7th, Vance Elementary School hosted a fun-filled family literacy night called Camp Read A Lot! Our Vance team worked tirelessly to plan a fully engaging night for our families and students by sending them on a reading camping adventure!!
Students completed a camp passport and participated in 8 different activities including ‘fishing’ for word rhymes, camp mad libs, a nature picture and word match, Boggle board for word building, tent craft writing, and fortune tellers to help them answer questions about reading.
Families also enjoyed a “campfire” read aloud listening to wonderful stories. The biggest hit of the night was crossing the bridge over “Reading Waterfalls” into our camp grounds with tents in the gym lit up under a star lit sky! Families read by lantern light while enjoying stories in tents and around the campfire. Families were also treated to a pizza dinner, popcorn, and could make their own trail mix!
At the end of the night, each student chose a free book to take home along with a goodie bag of “smores”! Also, parents were provided with various resources to continue to help their children with reading at home. It was a great night for our families!
