Northend Elementary School is a neighborhood school, truly the only neighborhood school left in New Britain.  The original Northend School opened on the site in April, 1876 and continued in use until 1931.  The present building opened in 1932 and was named after Charles Northend, a former superintendent.  Outwardly, the school appears today much as it did when it opened in 1932.  However, inside, opportunities abound for both academic and social growth.

Northend School developed a school-wide behavior management program that has resulted in more time on task and improved student learning.  Student and parents have responded positively to the new program.  The pillars of the program are responsibility and respect.  These pillars support our belief that all students can be successfull, productive members of our learning community.

Everyone at Northend School works hard to provide students with a quality educational program.  An active P.T.A., supportive of staff and students, supplements the curriculum by providing funds for class trips, cultural enrichment activities, and other educational opportunities for students.  Though the efforts of our Parent Volunteer Organizer, our students benefit from the services of many volunteers throughout the school year.

Northend School is a member of the Connecticut Association of Schools.   Students from Northend School participate annually in the environmental Conference held at CCSU.  An interdistrict technology grant connected students from Plainville to students at Northend School.  The grant provided the technology to link the classrooms.  Students also had the opportunity to visit Plymouth Plantation and the Tsongas Industrial History Center.  Through a variety of sources, computers are in place in every classroom.  The staff enthusiastically welcomes this addition to their classrooms and have received training on a building level in order to integrate technology into the academic program effectively and efficiently.

Northend School, with its roots deep in our city's historical past, strives to prepare its students for the future.  The recently renovated building provides an environment that moves students forward into the 21st century.  With the hard work and dedication of staff, parents, and community members, Northend Elementary School continues its quest for educational excellence.
